e were all ready to have molds and dies made to package HUDZ in blister packs - which our experts said was essential for 'this sort of product in this market.' We had the art files ready to go to the printer, and the drawing for the blister mold was done. All we wanted to do was hit a few bike shops and quadruple-check that the packaging was going to stand out in a normal store environment.

Good thing we did, because that trip made us scrap the whole thing.

It had always irked us that you would buy a bike part and 40 percent of the material used in the product was for packaging. Once you actually bought the product, all of the fancy packaging went either to be recycled, or off to a land fill. That didn't seem like something that a company that really cared about bicycling (and by necessity, the environment) should do - create waste and pollution when it wasn't necessary.

So instead we figured out how to use low-impact and recycled material; and as little of that as reasonably possible. It might not look as impressive on the rack, but the HUDZ still work just as well on your bike, and that's what matters.
